As a maker of hoop art it’s no surprise that I have a few hoops that I’ve made for myself - the ones that I couldn’t bear to sell or the need for a piece of art that I couldn’t find elsewhere.
I thought it might be useful to share my thoughts and ideas on how to display hoop art and share a few examples.
Embroidery hoops are designed as a tool to aid embroidery, but their design enables them to be equally useful as a frame for textile artwork. I always add a ribbon to allow hanging and they are backed with felt for a neat finish.
Larger hoops - 8” or above can look great hanging in isolation on the wall space but smaller hoops look particularly pleasing when part of a gallery wall. As well as art in traditional frames; I love hanging plates, canvases and include fabric and ceramic ornaments too.
But hoops aren’t just for hanging! Despite their circular design it is possible to prop them on a shelf or surface, you just need a couple to accessories to help keep them upright. Luckily for me this isn’t a problem as I have no end of candles, ornaments and bits and pieces to keep them in place. Alternatively you can buy mini display easels for just a few pounds from craft/art supplies shops. This is perhaps my favourite way of displaying hoop art, I love an eclectic display of items that can be changed regularly.
I hope this has inspired you to think about how you display your hoop art, or if you don't own any perhaps it has made you consider adding some to your decor collection.
